Hello
I have been quite busy recently, so much so that I forgot to write up another blog post at the start of this month.
So what have I been busy with?
Well, I completed a set of 9 courses on Coursera (Coursera is an online learning platform with a lot of courses on a variety of topics). Based on the recommendation of a dear friend, I spent the end of October and half of November on the IBM Data Science Professional Certificate. This was a program with 9 courses that introduced learners to data science and exposed them to some of the tools and techniques applied in the field.
On the software tools side, I learned to use Python, SQL, API's, GitHub and Jupyter Notebooks. In terms of techniques, there were many in machine learning, some of which I already knew from my formal Statistics training. Others seem to have had more of a Computer Science origin. For me, it was good to see what there was to current data science in a more structured way, from a reputable source to boot (as far as I know, IBM seems like quite a reputable source).
The program ended with a capstone project where I could apply what I learned to completing a data science project from start to finish. This involved writing up a blog post, which I posted to my LinkedIn account, as well as a report and Python notebook.
Overall these courses were a good test of my warp drives. The 9 courses are meant to be completed across 10 months of part time study; I completed them in just less than 1 month.
I did notice that October's blog post was a bit long for my tastes, and I've decided to try keep them shorter from now on. So I will end off with the painting I made in October. This is number 160 of my 1000 paintings.
